- Appointed to the Denver District Court by Governor Bill Ritter and took the bench on January 10, 2011
- After clerking for Judge Will Garwood on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit, he joined Holland & Hart in Denver, becoming a partner in 1988 and practicing in trials and appeals across constitutional law, civil rights, media law, commercial disputes, and personal injury
- Undergraduate degree from Texas A&M University in 1978 and his law degree, with honors, from the University of Texas in 1981, where he also served as a Law Review editor
- Born in Lamar, Colorado, and raised in West Texas
- He previously served on the Board of Colorado Public Television for 12 years and contributed to community initiatives, including Southeast Denver Baseball and Softball, where he was inducted into the organization’s Hall of Fame
