- Governor Haley Barbour appointed Lamar to the Mississippi Supreme Court on May 21, 2007, filling the vacancy created by Presiding Justice Kay B. Cobb’s retirement
- Circuit judge for the 17th Circuit Court (2001–2007)
- Retired American attorney and judge from Mississippi, best known as the third woman to serve on the Mississippi Supreme Court
- As a circuit judge, Lamar ruled that a state law requiring local governments to fund indigent defense was constitutional — a decision later affirmed by the Mississippi Supreme Court
