## Biography

### Professional career

- Anne K. McKeig is an American lawyer and Associate Justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court, appointed in 2016 and re‐elected in 2018 and 2024
- From 1992 to 2008, McKeig held the role of Assistant Hennepin County Attorney in the Child Protection Division, specializing in Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) cases
- The first Native American justice on the court and the first Native American woman to serve on any U.S. state supreme court
- McKeig has been an adjunct professor at Mitchell Hamline School of Law and St. Thomas School of Law, developing curricula on Child Abuse and the Law and the ICWA

- In June 2016, Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton appointed her to the Minnesota Supreme Court, where she joined on August 31, 2016, and was formally sworn in on September 15, 2016.

- She subsequently became a Hennepin County District Judge in 2008, appointed by Governor Tim Pawlenty, serving in both criminal and family court divisions.
