Scope: statewide

Electronic media and still-photography coverage is allowed in Florida public trial and appellate proceedings under Rule 2.450's equipment and conduct standards, always subject to the presiding judge's control of decorum, distractions, and fair administration.

Evidence excerpt: Subject at all times to the authority of the presiding judge to: (i) control the conduct of proceedings before the court; (ii) ensure decorum and prevent distractions; and (iii) ensure the fair administration of justice in the pending cause, electronic media and still photography coverage of public judicial proceedings in the appellate and trial courts of this state shall be allowed

## Biography

### Professional career

- From 2013 until his judicial appointment, he owned and operated his own law practice, providing him with extensive experience in both criminal and civil law
- Benjamin Boylston has been a resident of Florida’s Fifth Judicial Circuit for over forty years and currently serves as a Circuit Judge in Lake County

### Education

- Undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan
- Florida State University College of Law, where he also gained experience prosecuting cases as a certified legal intern — J.D.

### Additional information

- Began his legal career in 2005 practicing criminal law with Graves and Spivey, P.A., and later practiced civil law at Stoney and Gerken, P.A. in Mount Dora.
- One of three new judges appointed to the circuit, joining the bench alongside Shanae L. Pickens and Jason Smith
- Additionally, he held the role of a special magistrate for the City of Tavares, presiding over hearings and adjudicating city code violations
