## Biography

### Professional career

- Judicial Service: Alamance County District Court judge (2000–2024), chief district judge (2014–2023)
- North Carolina Chief Justice Paul Newby removed Allen from his role as chief district judge on December 18, 2023, appointing Judge Kathryn Whitaker “Katie” Overby in his place
- Began his legal career in 1989 as an assistant district attorney, later becoming chief assistant district attorney in 1997
- The retirement ended a 23-year judicial career that began as a prosecutor and included 20 years as a district court judge
- Brad Allen was born and raised in Alamance County, North Carolina, and is the son of the late superior court judge J.B. Allen, Jr., for whom the county’s criminal courts building is named

- Bradley (“Brad”) Reid Allen, Sr., 61, longtime Alamance County District Court judge, retired in 2024 after being demoted from chief district judge following allegations of inappropriate conduct at a bar association Christmas party
- On December 9, 2023, at the Alamance County Bar Association’s annual Christmas party, Allen was accused by multiple witnesses of inappropriately touching several women, with one witness describing it as “public groping” on the dance floor.
- In 2000, Governor James B. Hunt appointed him to the Alamance County District Court bench, a position he won outright in 2002 and held for 20 consecutive elected terms.
