- University of Mississippi School of Law in — LL.B. (1948)

### Additional information

- held the role of Chief Judge from 1981 to 1992, authoring more than 2,200 opinions.
- Considered for U.S. Supreme Court vacancies in 1971 and 1975.
- Nominated to the Fifth Circuit by President Richard Nixon on October 7, 1969; confirmed October 15, 1969.
- Represented the University of Mississippi’s Board of Trustees during the James Meredith desegregation case in 1962.
- Great‐grandson of Mississippi Governor Charles Clark (1863–1865).
