## Biography

### Professional career

- After clerking for Judge John M. Walker Jr. on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, she joined Ropes & Gray LLP in 1997, specializing in complex patent and trade secret litigation, including work on electro-mechanical devices and control algorithms.
- The first Latina justice on the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court
- As an Associate Justice, she hears and decides the state’s most significant legal questions, applying her technical problem-solving skills to complex cases, particularly those involving technology and law
- She succeeded Justice Barbara Lenk, who retired

### Education

- She then received her Juris Doctor with highest honors from Stanford Law School in 1996, serving as an editor of the Stanford Law Review

### Additional information

- Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1969 to Colombian immigrants, Wendlandt obtained a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign (1991) and an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1993).
- Her engineering background informs a meticulous, analytical judicial style, and she is known for a textualist approach and respect for precedent.
