## Biography

### Professional career

- Judge David Lee, a North Carolina Superior Court judge best known for overseeing the landmark Leandro school funding case, died on October 4, 2022, at age 72 from complications related to cancer
- Lee oversaw the case until March 2018, when Chief Justice Paul Newby reassigned it to another judge.
- The state Court of Appeals blocked the transfer, and the successor judge reduced the figure to $785 million
