In Texas appellate courts, attorneys must electronically file civil and criminal documents, subject to a good-cause motion; self-represented parties may e-file but are not required to do so.

Evidence excerpt: Attorneys in civil cases must electronically file documents. Attorneys in criminal cases must electronically file documents except for good cause shown in a motion filed in the appellate court.

## Biography

### Professional career

- Place 4 judge on the Texas First Court of Appeals, appointed in September 2024 and serving through December 2026
- He previously served as a court attorney for the Texas Fourteenth Court of Appeals (1987–1990)
- Before joining the court, Gunn had over two decades of appellate law practice as a partner at Beck Redden LLP in Houston.

- Appointed by Governor Greg Abbott to the First Court of Appeals on September 3, 2024, succeeding April Farris.
- Board-certified in Civil Appellate Law and a Fellow of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers.
- Over his career, he has argued before the Texas Supreme Court more than 30 times and before all Texas Courts of Appeals, as well as federal appellate courts including the Fifth, Tenth, and Federal Circuits
- He serves Place 4 on the court, which reviews civil, criminal, family, and probate appeals in Texas.
