### Professional career

- David Richard Herndon is a retired United States district judge who served on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois from 1998 until his retirement on January 7, 2019
- Associate Judge on the Illinois Third Judicial Circuit (1991–1998)

### Education

- B.A. in 1974 and J.D. in 1977 from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and its School of Law.

- He also served on the Judicial Conference of the United States committee for Judicial Security (2011–2018), chairing it for the final three years
- Chief Judge: 2007–2014
- On April 23, 1998, President Bill Clinton nominated Herndon to the Southern District of Illinois bench, replacing William L. Beatty.
