### Professional career

- In 1984, he was appointed to the Alexandria Circuit Court, serving 27 years — the last 14 as Chief Judge
- Began as a sole practitioner and part-time Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney, later joining the firm Thomas, Kent, Haddock & Sewell, and returning to private practice

- After retiring in 2012, he continued to sit as a substitute judge, totaling over 40 years on the bench.
- He married his high school sweetheart Joyce Elaine Rodgers in 1965, and they were together for 59 years.
- Born May 8, 1941, in Alexandria, VA, Haddock was the son of David Stanford Haddock and Alice May Haddock Gardiner, and grandson of Alva and Ada Haddock of Douglas, Georgia, and Robert and Lula May of Rose Hill Farm near Alexandria.
- Judge Haddock died at his Alexandria home on Dec.
- Colleagues and peers described him as a brilliant mind, kind presence, and model judge, valued for fairness, consistency, and wisdom.
- Chief Judge Connie Frogale called him “a great model” for judicial service.
- Also active in civic life, serving on boards for the Alexandria Jaycees, local chamber of commerce, Alexandria Legal Aid Society, and Alexandria Bar Foundation.
- He also held the role of a Captain in the U.S. Army Materiel Command after law school.
- He is survived by his wife Joyce, sons David Stanford Haddock II and Donald May Haddock Jr., and extended family.
- His service included leadership roles such as Virginia Delegate to the National Conference of State Trial Judges, member of the Boyd-Graves Conference, and state judicial leader for the National Judicial College.
- He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and farming.
