## Biography

### Professional career

- Distinguished jurist who held the role of a Judge of the Georgia Court of Appeals from February 28, 1992, until his voluntary retirement on December 31, 2010, and as Chief Judge from January 1, 1999, to December 31, 2000
- Johnson was sworn in as the 59th Judge of the Georgia Court of Appeals in 1992, retained by voters in 1992, 1998, and 2004
- As Chief Judge, he led the court during a period of significant legal work and judicial leadership

### Education


### Additional information

- Before his judicial career, Johnson held the role of State Senator for Georgia’s 34th District (1977–1980) and held roles on the State Crime Commission, Georgia Educational Improvement Council, and the Georgia Commission on Gender Bias in the Judicial System.
- Also the first Chair of the Supreme Court’s Gender Equality Commission
- Before joining the Court of Appeals, he held the role of a judge on the Superior Court of the Atlanta Judicial Circuit and the State Court of Fulton County
