## Biography

### Professional career

- Edward W. Najam Jr. is a senior judge of the Indiana Court of Appeals, First District, appointed in 1992 and retained by voters in 1996, 2006, and 2016

### Education

- Harvard Law School — J.D. (1972)

### Additional information

- Retired from active service in August 2022 at age 75, in accordance with Indiana’s constitutional retirement rules, and now serves as a senior judge
- In 2019, Indiana University awarded him its Bicentennial Medal for distinguished service.
- Najam received an appointment to the Court of Appeals by Governor Evan Bayh in 1992.
- Before joining the court, Najam held the role of Administrative Assistant to the Mayor of Bloomington for two years and practiced law in general civil and trial matters for 18 years
- He has also been active in civic life, including as Director and President of the Monroe County YMCA, Chair of the Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County, and member of the Sycamore Land Trust Advisory Board
- He is also a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and Indiana Bar Foundation
