### Professional career

- Elizabeth Napier “Bessie” Dewar is an American lawyer and judge who has held the role of an Associate Justice of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court since January 16, 2024
- Governor Maura Healey nominated Dewar on December 8, 2023 to fill the seat vacated by Justice Elspeth B. Cypher’s retirement
- The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court is the state’s highest appellate court, with a Chief Justice and six Associate Justices
- She has also been involved in high-profile appellate cases as part of the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office
