### Professional career

- Judge of Virginia’s 24th Judicial District Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court, elected in 2023 as the first Black judge in that district
- Assistant Attorney General for the Virginia Division of Child Support Enforcement (2006–2019), serving 13 years
- Substitute judge for the 24th Judicial Circuit for two years

- Butler’s election marked a historic milestone as the first Black judge in Virginia’s 24th Judicial District
- A native of Washington, D.C., Butler grew up in Roanoke, Virginia, the son of a Methodist minister and a high school teacher
