### Professional career

- In 2025, Judge Deiss was unexpectedly terminated from her position by the Department of Justice
- Appointed by Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch and began hearing cases in February 2017
- From 2005 to 2017, she was an assistant U.S. attorney in the Northern District of California
- Her early career included clerking for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and the Southern District of New York, serving as senior court counsel for the Supreme Court of the Republic of Palau, and working as a staff attorney for the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals
