### Professional career

- Prior to his appointment, Hardy held the role of a Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Legal Counsel from 2017 to 2020.
- Judge James Hardy combines extensive experience in federal law, military justice, and engineering, with a career spanning private practice, government service, and academia
- In addition to his judicial duties, Judge Hardy teaches seminars on constitutional issues in the military justice system as an adjunct professor at Notre Dame Law School and as a Lecturer on Law at Harvard Law School
- He also practiced law as a litigation partner at Kirkland & Ellis LLP in Washington, D.C., and previously clerked for Justice Clarence Thomas of the Supreme Court, Chief Judge David B. Sentelle of the D.C. Circuit, and Judge Margaret A. Ryan of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces United States Courts
