- He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1971, serving as Honor Man in his recruit training platoon in San Diego, California.
- Born October 29, 1952 in the U.S. Marine Corps family of Jack and Betty Hennelly, John grew up in a family that moved frequently — eleven times before high school graduation — and was deeply close to his siblings.
- Stationed in Okinawa, Japan, and Hawaii
- handling complex litigation on environmental and natural resource issues.
- After military service, John earned his law degree from Georgia State University School of Law and began a decades‐long legal career in Georgia.
- His service included U.S. Embassy security detachments in Madrid, Warsaw, and Moscow, followed by commissions as a Marine Officer after graduating from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
- He held the role of Senior Assistant Attorney‐General
