Thacker was born and raised in Griffin, Georgia, graduating from Griffin High School, the University of Georgia (B.A. in Religion, 1999), and John Marshall Law School in Atlanta (J.D., 2001) Before becoming a judge, he held the role of an Assistant District Attorney for the Griffin Judicial Circuit, later moving to the Coweta Judicial Circuit, and then opened his own law firm, Josh W. Thacker, Attorney at Law, in 2007, specializing in criminal defense
