Scope: statewide

Electronic media and still-photography coverage is allowed in Florida public trial and appellate proceedings under Rule 2.450's equipment and conduct standards, always subject to the presiding judge's control of decorum, distractions, and fair administration.

Evidence excerpt: Subject at all times to the authority of the presiding judge to: (i) control the conduct of proceedings before the court; (ii) ensure decorum and prevent distractions; and (iii) ensure the fair administration of justice in the pending cause, electronic media and still photography coverage of public judicial proceedings in the appellate and trial courts of this state shall be allowed

## Biography

### Professional career

- Prior to this appointment, Legler held the role of a County Court Judge in Sarasota County beginning in 2023 and worked as an Assistant State Attorney in the Twelfth Judicial Circuit, where he prosecuted cases in the misdemeanor, juvenile, and felony divisions, eventually becoming chief of the felony division
- He was licensed to practice law in Florida in 2011
- Judge Kennedy B. Legler currently serves on the Twelfth Judicial Circuit Court, which covers Desoto, Manatee, and Sarasota counties in Florida

### Additional information

- Joined this position by Governor Ron DeSantis on October 25, 2023, filling a judicial vacancy created by Senate Bill 2508.
- Both his Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Media Studies (2008)
- In addition to his circuit court duties, Judge Legler presides over Community Care Court in Sarasota County (Division P).
- Well-educated and experienced jurist with a background in prosecution and county-level judicial service.
