Scope: statewide

Electronic media and still-photography coverage is allowed in Florida public trial and appellate proceedings under Rule 2.450's equipment and conduct standards, always subject to the presiding judge's control of decorum, distractions, and fair administration.

Evidence excerpt: Subject at all times to the authority of the presiding judge to: (i) control the conduct of proceedings before the court; (ii) ensure decorum and prevent distractions; and (iii) ensure the fair administration of justice in the pending cause, electronic media and still photography coverage of public judicial proceedings in the appellate and trial courts of this state shall be allowed

## Biography

### Professional career

- LeAnn P. Mackey-Barnes is a judge of the Marion County Circuit Court in Florida’s Fifth Judicial Circuit, elected in 2022 to fill a vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Jim McCune

### Education

- J.D. from the University of Florida Levin College of Law in 2002 and holds B.A. degrees in criminal justice and sociology

### Additional information

- She has been recognized with the Richard D. Custureri Pro Bono Attorney of the Year Award (2015) and the Diamond Hearts Community Service Award (2015).
- Before becoming a judge, Mackey-Barnes held the role of Chief Assistant Public Defender for the 5th Judicial Circuit, where she helped establish the Veterans Treatment Court, Mental Health Court, and Juvenile Expungement Program.
- In her own words, she values spirituality, generosity, and family, and aspires to inspire Marion County youth to pursue their dreams
