## Biography

### Professional career

- Since 2011, Estrella Martínez has held the role of Juez Asociado (Associate Justice) of the Tribunal Supremo de Puerto Rico
- Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of Puerto Rico, appointed on May 25, 2011 by Governor Luis Fortuño and confirmed by the Senate on May 11, 2011
- The sixth justice appointed by Fortuño during his first two and a half years as governor
- Began as a law clerk to Judge Gilberto Gierbolini of the Puerto Rico Court of Appeals, later working in private practice and notarial services, and in public law for various entities

- In March 2026, he was honored with the Patriot Award from the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) for outstanding support to National Guard and Reserve members
- He was born November 17, 1971 in San Juan, Puerto Rico
- He also participated in pro bono and legal aid programs, serving over 5,000 indigent Puerto Ricans
- His confirmation was supported by the New Progressive Party and opposed by the Popular Democratic Party.
