## Biography

### Professional career

- Maurice A. Hartnett III (1927–2009) was an American jurist who held the role of a Justice of the Delaware Supreme Court from 1994 to 2000 and earlier as a Delaware Court of Chancery judge
- Hartnett was appointed by Governor Thomas Carper as a Justice of the Delaware Supreme Court in 1994, serving until June 30, 2000

### Education

- B.S. in political science from the University of Delaware in 1951, later receiving a J.D. from George Washington University Law School in 1954 after transferring from Georgetown Law School.

### Additional information

- He also chaired the State Tax Appeals Board (1973–1976), served on the Delaware Constitutional Revision Commission (1968–1969), and was a long-time member of the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws
- He also earned a Master of Education in 1957 and clerked for Judge Charles L. Terry Jr. while in law school
- He graduated from Dover High School in 1945 and served in the U.S. Army until 1947.
- Born January 20, 1927 in Dover, Delaware, Hartnett was the son of Maurice A. Hartnett Jr., a local businessman and politician, and Anne Louise Morris.
- For over two decades, he maintained a private law practice in Dover, specializing in business and real estate law, with clients including banks and automobile dealerships
