Scope: statewide

Electronic media and still-photography coverage is allowed in Florida public trial and appellate proceedings under Rule 2.450's equipment and conduct standards, always subject to the presiding judge's control of decorum, distractions, and fair administration.

Evidence excerpt: Subject at all times to the authority of the presiding judge to: (i) control the conduct of proceedings before the court; (ii) ensure decorum and prevent distractions; and (iii) ensure the fair administration of justice in the pending cause, electronic media and still photography coverage of public judicial proceedings in the appellate and trial courts of this state shall be allowed

## Biography

### Professional career

- Elected as a Circuit Judge in 2012, de la O assumed office in 2013
- Practiced law in Miami for over 20 years, co-founding the firm de la O & Marko in 1994, and was an AV-rated trial and appellate lawyer
- He is also an educator, teaching trial advocacy as an Adjunct Professor at Florida International University College of Law and participating in judicial training programs

### Education

- De la O earned his B.A. in political science and criminology from Florida State University and his J.D. from Florida State University College of Law, graduating with high honors and serving as an editor on the Law Review.

### Additional information

- He also worked at Steel Hector & Davis and Sonnett, Sale & Kuehne early in his career
- Judge de la O has presided over more than 180 civil and criminal jury trials and serves on the Judicial Ethics Advisory Committee, providing guidance on judicial conduct, as well as the Florida Supreme Court’s Criminal Court Steering Committee.
