### Professional career

- Began his legal career as a community liaison officer and deputy prosecuting attorney for King County, later serving as a staff attorney for the Port of Seattle and in private practice with Bogle & Gates

### Education

- University of Washington School of Law in, becoming the first in his family to graduate from college — J.D. (1975)
- Bachelor of Public Administration from Seattle University in 1972
