Scope: statewide

Electronic media and still-photography coverage is allowed in Florida public trial and appellate proceedings under Rule 2.450's equipment and conduct standards, always subject to the presiding judge's control of decorum, distractions, and fair administration.

Evidence excerpt: Subject at all times to the authority of the presiding judge to: (i) control the conduct of proceedings before the court; (ii) ensure decorum and prevent distractions; and (iii) ensure the fair administration of justice in the pending cause, electronic media and still photography coverage of public judicial proceedings in the appellate and trial courts of this state shall be allowed

## Biography

### Professional career

- Judge Robert “Bobby” E. Long, Jr. is a judge of the First District Court of Appeal of Florida, appointed on June 10, 2020 by Governor Ron DeSantis
- Before joining the Court of Appeal, Judge Long held the role of a trial court judge on Florida’s Second Judicial Circuit from June 26, 2016, appointed by Governor Rick Scott.

- overseeing internal affairs, training, litigation, legislative affairs, and employment matters
- Began his legal career as an active-duty Judge Advocate with the United States Navy, later working in private practice at a statewide law firm handling civil litigation.
- Judge Long is a veteran of the war in Afghanistan and has also held the role of a Naval Officer in the Pacific.
- His litigation experience spans wrongful death to murder cases First District Court of Appeal
- Prior to that, he was General Counsel and a Major on the Executive Command Staff at the Leon County Sheriff’s Office
- He currently holds the rank of Commander in the U.S. Navy Reserves
- He has served on boards including the Legal Aid Foundation, Rotary Club of Tallahassee, and the American Inn of Court, and is a member of the Economic Club of Florida, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Leadership Tallahassee
