### Professional career

- Former Assistant Public Defender, Mental Health Unit at DeKalb County Public Defender (2004–2011), where he helped create and lead a specialized team for indigent defendants with acute mental health challenges
- Sean Derek Johnson‐Gage is a judge of the DeKalb County Magistrate Court in Georgia and a long‐time attorney specializing in criminal defense cases involving mental illness and civil psychiatric commitments
