- Confirmed and began serving as Associate Justice in 2021, later listed as First Justice on the official court roster
- The Massachusetts Housing Court’s official justices list confirms Sergio E. Carvajal as First Justice, and judicial directories such as KnowJudges also list him as active in the Massachusetts Housing Court

- Governor Charlie Baker nominated Carvajal on May 26, 2021 to fill the seat vacated by Hon.
- Began his legal career in 1999 as a Staff Attorney for the Legal Assistance Corporation of Central Massachusetts
- representing plaintiffs in fair housing and employment discrimination cases before state and federal courts and the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination.
- First Justice of the Massachusetts Housing Court, a statewide court with jurisdiction over civil and criminal matters involving the health, safety, or welfare of residential property occupants or owners.
- He also conducted community legal education on fair housing and landlord–tenant law DSpace
