### Professional career

- Stanley began as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia (1971–1974) before opening his own practice in 1974.
- Many years as a municipal court judge in Tucker and Brookhaven, Georgia

### Education

- J.D. summa cum laude from John Marshall Law School in 1969 as Class Valedictorian

### Additional information

- Distinguished Atlanta attorney, judge, and community leader who passed away peacefully on December 27, 2025, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer
- He also held the role of President of the Federal Bar Association and DeKalb Bar Association, and was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1992
- Born March 6, 1944 in the Bronx, New York, to Mae and Al Baum, Stanley grew up with his sister Betye.
- He moved to New Rochelle, NY, at age nine, later attending Rider College in New Jersey, where he excelled in leadership roles such as fraternity master, Chairman of the College Young Republican Club, and Chair of the President’s Council.
- His civic engagement included leadership on the DeKalb County Board of Ethics, MARTA Board of Ethics, and the DeKalb County Community Relations Commission.
- He was also active in Jewish community life, serving as President of Congregation Shearith Israel and on boards such as the Anti-Defamation League and Bureau of Jewish Education
- He practiced for over 50 years, specializing in criminal, family, and corporate law, and was admitted to the Georgia and U.S. Supreme Courts.
