Scope: statewide

Electronic media and still-photography coverage is allowed in Florida public trial and appellate proceedings under Rule 2.450's equipment and conduct standards, always subject to the presiding judge's control of decorum, distractions, and fair administration.

Evidence excerpt: Subject at all times to the authority of the presiding judge to: (i) control the conduct of proceedings before the court; (ii) ensure decorum and prevent distractions; and (iii) ensure the fair administration of justice in the pending cause, electronic media and still photography coverage of public judicial proceedings in the appellate and trial courts of this state shall be allowed

## Biography

### Professional career

- assistant general counsel for the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (2012–2016)
- Judge Stephen S. Everett currently serves on the 2nd Judicial Circuit Court of Florida, which covers Franklin, Gadsden, Jefferson, Leon, Liberty, and Wakulla counties
- Before joining the bench, he served as an assistant public defender in the 20th Judicial Circuit and as an assistant state attorney in the 12th Judicial Circuit.

- B.S. in Telecommunication from the University of Florida
- He also holds a bachelor's degree in civil law from Louisiana State University

### Additional information

- Joined this position by Governor Ron DeSantis in 2019, filling a vacancy left by the retirement of Judge Karen Gievers.
- Everett has received several honors, including the Richard W. Ervin Equal Justice Award (2019), the Outstanding Judge Award from the Tallahassee Barristers Association (2018), and the Hall of Fame Award from the NAACP Tallahassee Branch (2018)
- Prior to this, Everett served on the Leon County Court, having been appointed by Governor Rick Scott in 2016 to replace Robert R. Wheeler
- Judge Everett has been active in numerous professional and community organizations, including the Tallahassee Barristers Association, Tallahassee Bar Association, William Stafford American Inn of Court, Florida Supreme Court Commission on Trial Court Performance and Accountability, and the Florida Bar Criminal Procedure Rules Committee.
- He is also a member of the NAACP, Village Square, and the Gulf Winds Track Club
