Alabama Rule of Criminal Procedure 9.4 permits televising, photographing, or radio broadcasting of judicial proceedings only as provided by Alabama judicial ethics canons, law, or another court rule.

Evidence excerpt: The taking of television pictures or other photographs in or of the courtroom during the progress of judicial proceedings or the radio broadcasting of judicial proceedings may be permitted as provided in Canon 3(A)(7) and (7B), Canons of Judicial Ethics, promulgated by the Alabama Supreme Court, or as otherwise may be permitted by law or other rule of court.

- 2013–present: Associate Justice, Supreme Court of Alabama (elected 2012, re‐elected 2018 and 2024)
- 2004–2013: Judge, Alabama Court of Civil Appeals (elected 2004, re‐elected 2010)
- Named “Judge of the Year” by the Family Law Section of the Alabama State Bar in 2012 Alabama Judicial System.
- 1987–2005: Assistant Attorney General, Alabama Department of Environmental Management, serving as associate general counsel
- 1984–1986: Staff attorney, Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals
