Professional career

• The Presiding Judge of the Georgia Court of Appeals, serving since January 1, 1999, and currently in her fifth term, with her term ending in 2028
• Presiding Judge Barnes has also served as a Director on the Boards of Georgia Court Appointed Special Advocates (GACASA), the Truancy Intervention Project, the National Courts and Science Institute, and the Advisory Board to the AEI-Brookings Joint Center for Regulatory Studies Judicial Education Project.

• Presiding Judge Barnes has since been elected to a fourth term in 2016, and a fifth term in 2022.
• She has been re‐elected without opposition in 2004, 2010, 2016, and 2022, winning the largest number of votes in Georgia’s history in the 2022 election.
• Elected to a third term in 2010, and received more votes than any other candidate in the state of Georgia.
• She held the role of Chief Judge from 2007 to 2008
• Presiding Judge Barnes is a 2006 graduate of Leadership Atlanta.
• She was the first woman to be elected in a state-wide judicial race without having been first appointed to the bench, and was re-elected, without opposition, in 2004.
