Commission narrative

The Ninth Judicial District Commission on Judicial Performance by a vote of 7-0 with two commission vacancies and one commissioner absent, finds that the Honorable Judge Elise Myer MEETS PERFORMANCE STANDARDS .

The Commission found Judge Myer’s legal opinions to be thoughtful, fair, clear, and well-reasoned. Through court observations, interviews, survey reports, and the Commission’s interview with Judge Myer, the Commission found that Judge Myer demonstrates exceptional integrity, strong legal knowledge, excellent communication skills, a calm and respectful judicial temperament, effective courtroom and administrative management, and meaningful service to the legal profession and the public. The Commission considers Judge Myer to be a model judge. She is prepared, fair, respectful, and thoughtful in her handling of matters before the court. She communicates clearly with attorneys, parties, and members of the public, and she maintains appropriate control of the courtroom while treating those who appear before her with dignity. The Commission found no meaningful concerns regarding Judge Myer’s performance. To the contrary, the Commission believes Judge Myer reflects the highest standards expected of the judiciary.

The Commission considered Judge Myer’s performance over the past term by reading a selection of her legal opinions, observing her in court, reviewing her judicial performance survey reports from attorneys and non-attorneys, interviewing interested parties including the district attorney and the district’s head of the public defender’s office, reviewing Judge Myer’s self-evaluation, and interviewing Judge Myer. The Commission applied the following criteria when considering Judge Myer’s performance: integrity, legal knowledge, communication skills, judicial temperament, administrative performance, and service to the legal profession and the public. Judge Myer was appointed to the District Court in 2023. The Commission cannot recommend Judge Myer more highly, believes that she meets performance standards and is an asset to the 9th Judicial District, the Courts, and the State of Colorado.

Judge Myer was appointed as a district judge in the 9th Judicial District in June 2023. Prior to her appointment, Judge Myer was a public defender in the Glenwood Springs Regional Trial Office of the Office of the State Public Defender. She began her work as a public defender in June 2011 and, at the time of her appointment, was the managing attorney of her office.

Judge Myer received her bachelor’s degrees in Spanish and Sociology from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA, in 2004. She received her law degree from American University, Washington College of Law, in Washington, D.C., in 2010. She moved to Colorado shortly after finishing law school.
