Lauren M. Black

Lauren M. Black was appointed as an immigration judge to begin hearing cases in May 2026. Judge Black earned a Bachelor of Arts in 2010 from Chapman University and a Juris Doctor in 2014 from Pepperdine University School of Law. From September 2023 to April 2026, she served as an assistant chief counsel with the Office of the Principal Legal Advisor, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Department of Homeland Security (DHS), in San Francisco. From January 2022 to September of 2023, and from April 2018 to August 2019, she served as an asylum officer at the San Francisco Asylum Office, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, DHS. From November of 2019 to January of 2022, she was an attorney with Martinez Law Group in Sacramento, California. From January to March of 2018, she was an attorney at Verma Law Firm in San Jose, California, and from April 2015 to August 2017 she was an attorney at Centro De Ayuda Para Inmigrantes (CALI), in Santa Clara, California. Judge Black is a member of the State Bar of California.
