Sarah Sawwan

Sarah Sawwan was appointed as an immigration judge to begin hearing cases in May 2026. Judge Sawwan earned a Bachelor of Arts in 2008 from the University of North Florida and a Juris Doctor in 2015 from Thurgood Marshall School of Law. From October 2016 to August 2025, she served as an assistant chief counsel with the Office of the Principal Legal Advisor (OPLA), U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), in El Paso, Texas. From August 2025 to May 2026, she served as counsel with OPLA, ICE, DHS, in Chelmsford, Massachusetts. From 1997 to 2002, she served on active duty in the U.S. Navy as an aviation support equipment technician, with the Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Department, and Auxiliary Security Forces, at the Naval Air Station North Island in Coronado, California. Judge Sawwan is a member of the State Bar of Texas.
